The UNESCO Assessors are to Visit the Lut Desert

Two representatives of the International Organization UNESCO (IUCN) International Union for Conservation of Nature, where one of them is a formally from New Zealand and one from Tunisia, for field work and expert in order to register the Lut Desert on the World Record List they have enter to the Desert Dehsalm Desert in Nehbandan.

From a report from the Public Relations Department of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Administration of Southern Khorasan, the Director General of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism of the County said: “The Natural Heritage of the Lut Desert is the first file of Natural Heritage in Iran that UNESCO found it very important to register this place on the List of World Heritages”.
Mr. Hassan Ramazani added: “The UNESCO Assessors wanted to visit some places like: Rig-e Yalan, Clute of the Lut Desert, visit the Nebkas, different Clute of this area, the bed of the Shour River, Roasted Wheat (Gandom-e Beryan), The Imaginary City of Lut and Nehbandan's Wind Mill. The UNESCO Assessors are to investigate these areas and the Privacy of the Lut Desert, to observe the local management structure in the region to protect the Lut Desert, the status of tourism and continuous monitoring of the Lut Desert, the integrity of nature of the Lut area in various national and regional cooperation will evaluate the outcome of the review which will be given to UNESCO. The outcome of this assessment and inspection will then be sent to the Central Organization of UNESCO. The World Recording of the Lut Desert will be finalized at the end of February 2016, and then in July at a meeting on the UNESCO 2016 agenda”.
The Director General of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism of the County, while stating that the necessary preparations for the international registration of the Dehsalm Desert in Nehbandan was done, he said: “The opening of the Office of the Lut Desert in one of the houses in the Village of Dehsalm, the coordination with the Governor and Officials of Nehbandan, the Coordination with the County Police, meeting with the local community of the Village of Dehsalm, development and organization of the village etc., was some of the proceedings”.
Mr. Hassan Ramazani also added: “The Village of Dehsalm is one of the villages which is a Tourist attraction in Southern Khorasan and is a central part of the Town of Nehbandan, which is 90 Km West of the town and also 270 km South-west of the City of Birjand, the capital of the County of Southern Khorasan”.
