Traditional Pottery Skills of Mahdieh Village of Khousf has been registered

Pottery Skills are one of the ancient handicrafts of humans, because the same raw material and work methods around the world are the same and have many similarities with differences in some work techniques, additives and the appearance of the molded shape. For these reasons, the pottery of Mahdieh have differences which are also rooted in the limited resources and raw materials and local community needs, which have distinctive features of pottery for this region.

From a report from the Public Relations Department of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Administration of South Khorasan, Mr. Barabadi, Liable of the Research Section of the Administration said: 'Shah- zileh pottery is typical of a lot of pottery in Iran and because of its geographical scope is also transnational. Diagnosis of soil quality experience for pottery or "Dashgary" (old name for the art of pottery a in the region of Khousf and Birjand) with methods to curing mud and preparation as well as cooking methods and equipment used in this field and the beautiful local pottery, implies talent, ability and rich experience in this art handed down from generation to generation in this village in such a way that even the pummlling of mud needs a master to do it'.

This skill was registered on 26/12/2016 on the List of Intangible Heritages of the Country.
