From a report of the Public Relations Department of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Administration of South Khorasan, the Expert for Recording Natural Heritages in the County said: “After reviewing the Record and Policy of the Natural Heritage Committee which was held in Tehran on the18th November, 2015 the Old Cypress Tree of Esfad was Recorded on the List of National Natural Heritages.
Mrs. Zahra Malakouti added: “This Old Cypress Tree located in the farmlands of the village has a beautiful and unique appearance. The trunk with a large knot and twists to the east side are hollow. The trunk of the tree at ground level is 8.40 meters and from the breast is 7.30meters and is 19meters in height. The people of the region highly value and respect it, and in the past, the wood of this tree was used as firewood for cooking on special occasions and they burned wood to heat stoves in winter”.
