The Lut Desert as the First Natural Effect of Iran has been Recorded on UNESCO World Heritage List
The Director General of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Administration of South Khorasan , Mr. Ramezani said: 'The Lut Desert as the first natural effect of Iran and as the third effect in the County has been recorded on World Heritage List of UNESCO.

From the report of the Public Relations Department of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization of the County of Southern Khorasan: The Lut Desert is the largest desert in Iran, with an area of 40 thousand square kilometers. This area tectonic is divided into 3 parts, Northern Lut, Central Loot and Southern Lut. The South side of Northern Lut had irregular cuts in the edge of the plain overlooking the hole of the Shour river of Birjand. The unique geomorphologic phenomenon was formed over thousands of years in the Lut Desert, which makes this area a unique and it attracts a lot of scientists and tourists to this area. In the desert areas with exceptional natural phenomena’s and are wonderful and unique can be noted as Clute and Yardangs and elevation (Desert Pots), Sandy Pyramids, Volcanic Cones, and Basaltic Lava Plains etc. In some parts of this desert valuable animal species such as cats and sandy foxes, all kinds of snakes and scorpions and certain species of birds, etc., can be found.
 The Lut desert is shared between the Counties of Southern Khorasan, Kerman, Sistan and Balouchestan, and in 2014 was listed on the National Natural Heritage List with the Number 203. This desert was recorded on World Heritage List of UNESCO on the 17th July, 2016.
