The Village of Chenesht

The Village of Chenesht is part of the Town of Sarbisheh which is located 60 Km south east of Birjand and is at the center of the county.

This village is located in the mountains south of the City of Birjand, and because of the specific morphology and its geographical location as well as the special customs of its people, the Shrine of Seyed Hamid Alavi and two famous caves are a collection of variety of tourist attractions in this placem and on most days of the year a lot of tourists accommodate in and around the county. The Village of Chenesht is located in the Bagheran Mountains and in the past has been a historic part of the Nahar Jan Village, which is now part Sarbisheh. Because of the four seasonal river in the village, it is called "Chand Shat", where through time has become to be known as Chenesht. Chenesht name is similar to "Behesht or Paradise". Due to its natural beauty and prosperity, a group of farmers in earlier years chose this area for their living and over the times it took its current name. Chenesht had lots of gardens and lands because it is located between 4 rivers and on a mountain. The climate is temperate, so there are cold winters and cool summers. It is 2,150 meters above sea level. The village consists of, the Tomb or Shrine of Seyed Hamed Alavi and his Children, the Chenesht Cave and the Chehl Chah Cave. In this village and on mountain slopes are two caves which are called Chenesht and Chehel Chah. The Chenesht Cave is located to the north of the village and the earthquakes that occurred in the past history created them to be about 60 meters in length. The Chehel Chah Cave is in the vicinity of the location of the Chenesht Cave and dates back to more than 1,400 years ago. According to historical documents the first time, about 600 years ago it was discovered by Seyed Mohammad Mosha' Sha, At the center of the cave, a pond made of brick and stone work by humans, and articles such as pottery, wood and fabric can be found.
