Band-e-Darreh

The Darreh Dam or Band-e-Darreh is the biggest mountainous and historical dam in the City of Birjand which was built on the order of Prince Shaukat-ol-Molk and created in the year 1294 A.H.

The structure of this dam, follows the grooves located in the mountains and in most parts of the valley below is based on river sediments. The length of Dam’s Crest is 31 m, with a width of 3 to 5 meters, at a height of about 13 meters and 8 meters thickness at the base of the wall and the crown varies from 3 to 5 meters. Materials used in the Ward Valley, include brick, stone, lime mortar and concrete, used in the construction of the valley and the exterior has been formed with brick, and the dam’s high wall is about 15 meters long and 35 meters wide from the valley floor which varies between 3 to 5 meters.
This dam dates back to the late Zand and early Qajar era. This dam became famous because the water passes from above and down the valley. This dam is located 5 Km at the end of Modares Street in Birjand, between the southern mountains of this city which is called The Bagheran Mountain.
