The County of South Khorasan because of the dry desert and mountainous areas, has various species of animals, including birds, mammals, reptiles, etc.This county also due to the special geographical position holds rich and diverse fossilsthat many enthusiasts and researchers explore, study and collect

Mr. Mohammad Jomhouri is one of the researchers and collectors of fossils in the county, with the support and participation of the Administration of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism of South Khorasan attempted to set up a Museum to provide and display the multiple species, fossils for introduction and training.

The Museum of Science and Natural History of South Khorasan is located in the historical contexture of Birjand which is in two parts of" Fossils” and "Wildlife" which is used to familiarize and train researchers, scholars and enthusiasts to enjoy.

The Fossils Section: This section is related to paleontology of the County. In this section, a collection of fossils from different branches of sponges, corals, shellfish, brushed shellfish, arthropod, arm end and micro fossils etc., and plant fossils exposed have been introduced by the number. Most of the fossils which are on display in this museum have been collected from this county and almost all of them are unique fossils in Iran and the world.

The Wildlife Section: In this section a display of Taxidermy of wildlife, including native and non-native (immigrants) in the form of two sets of "Birds" and "Mammals" in two sections of "Mountain and Desert" and "Water and Lagoons". This section is a display of examples of the rare and rarest species of South Khorasan.
