Pottery Skills are one of the ancient handicrafts of humans, because the same raw material and work methods around the world are the same and have many similarities with differences in some work techniques, additives and the appearance of the molded shape. For these reasons, the pottery of Mahdieh have differences which are also rooted in the limited resources and raw materials and local community needs, which have distinctive features of pottery for this region.

The Alam is the most important tool in the implementation in the Muharram mourning ceremonies. In each part of the county to sign the name of each of the Alams for Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions and each of the alams is the symbol of each person.

Shovel or Spade Ceremony (Bill Zani) is the only event in the month of Muharram which is not held in every township. This ceremony is held only in Khousf at noon of the day of Ashoura.

From a report from the Public Relations Department of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Administration of the County of South Khorasan, the liable of Research section of this Administration said: Drumming ceremonies before sunrise and at sunset (Eftar) in the month of Ramedan is to wake up the people for praying and to know that the sun has set and sunrise has different times. The Sang Zani in the Ghohestan area in the County of Southern Khorasan is one of the mourning ceremonies in the month of Moharram.

Flag Parade (AlamGardani) is a mourning ceremony in county of Southern Khorasan. Many years ago when important persons died and later formed beliefs of the Islamic religion, the colour and shape of religious traditions were implemented as one of the mourning methods during the month of Muharram.. In this event some of the persons who keep the flags known as Alam chi, and holy leaders on the funeral procession carry the flags to the people’s houses and make offerings.
